Richardson Molding Inc. was started in 1858 and has been a major supplier to the battery industry for over 149 years. The company has two manufacturing facilities; Philadelphia, Mississippi and Columbus, Indiana, as well as an Engineering Center located in Indianapolis, Indiana.

RMI Philadelphia, Mississippi facility

  • RMI Philadelphia Mississippi facility was built in 1977 as a state of the art facility for the battery industry. All aspects of plastic components for the battery industry are produced and assembled at this facility. This includes containers, covers, vents, and accessory items.
  • This facility houses 58 plastic injection presses. They range in size from 150 ton to 1,000 ton with shot sizes ranging from 8 oz. To 181 oz. Robotics and automated assembly lines help to keep quality up and costs down.
  • With over 27 acres and 40,000 square foot concrete pad already pour ed for an additional production building, RMI is poised to grow with its customers.
  • The workforce at RMI Mississippi is non-union and extremely stable with the average length of service in the facility being 14.5 years. Salaried personnel average over 24.5 years of service.
  • The Engineering Group, Plant Manager, and immediate staff combine for over 300 years experience in injection molding.
  • The RMI Mississippi facility was certified QS-9000 compliant in 1997 with conversion to ISO 9001-2000 in 2003.
  • RMI supplies original equipment plastic parts (OEM) for Ford Motor, Daimler Chrysler, BMW, etc. and all major manufacturers of after-market batteries in the United States as well as foreign manufactures.
  • The Philadelphia Mississippi Plant has a complete mold repair department including large EDM equipment for on-location mold repair and modification.
  • Experience in molding and heat seal assembly of many different plastics such as Polyethylene, Polypropylene, FR, Structural Foam, Talc Filled, ABS, Styrene, Acetyl, etc.

RMI Columbus, Indiana facility


  • The RMI Columbus, Indiana facility was built in 1988 to supply the industrial battery market. Two-piece welded as well as seamless “jars” are manufactured to the highest tolerances demanded by this industry.
  • The plant houses 29 high-speed presses, 20 of which have state-of-the-art robotics. Shot size ranges from 18 oz. to 205 oz. Clamp tonnage ranges from 110 tons to 1,000 tons.
  • The facility is non-union with an emphasis on lean manufacturing.
  • The plant obtained their ISO 9001-2000 certification in 2004.
  • RMI Columbus, Indiana facility plant supplies original equipment manufactures (OEM) as well as aftermarket. Industries include motive power (electric forklifts, mining, and diesel starting), stationary (reserve power), and telecommunications as well as other specialty diversified products.
  • RMI Columbus also has rotational molding capabilities for larger, lower volume products. Examples of this process are large diesel trays and large liners for military applications.
  • The plant is over 100,000 square feet with over 11 acres for expansion. The facility also includes 17,000 square feet of office space.
  • The facility has its own mold repair machine shop

RMI Indianapolis, Indiana

RMI Engineering Group, located in Indianapolis Indiana, provides plastic product, tooling design, and mold troubleshooting.
